Why Soy Wax?
There are some fantastic benefits to burning Soy Wax, especially when compared to paraffin...
- Soy Wax releases a lot fewer chemicals when it's burned. Paraffin candles tend to put out a lot off black soot as they burn. If you've burned these types of candles, you've probably noticed the black soot that gathers around the edge of any container. These chemicals can stain fabrics and walls and affect breathing, especially for those who are already suffer from some breathing problem.
Nothing that burns is completely free from some type of residue (well, except some gases, which is why the flame from gas is usually blue). Soy Wax, though, has a very low amount of soot given off and it's white instead of black.
- Soy Wax is all natural and renewable. Soy Wax is made from, well, Soy Beans. Paraffin Wax, though, is a petroleum based product. Not only is Soy a lot healthier to burn, it is also annually renewable and supports American Farmers.
- Soy Wax burns longer. In most cases it burns 35% to 50% longer than paraffin and it burns more completely.
- Soy Wax holds scent much better. Candles made with Soy smell fantastic! They can hold a lot more scent than paraffin and, because Soy burns more completely, more of the scent is released. You don't even need to light the candle or put it on a warmer to have the fragrance fill the room. Just leave it sitting and reap the benefits of your favorite scent. You could put a Soy Candle on a candle warmer to more fully release the scent and then, once the fragrance diminishes a bit, burn it to release the rest.
- Soy Wax burns at a much lower temperature. Soy wax has a melting point between 120 to 125 degrees. For paraffin, though, the melting point is somewhere between 170 and 210 degrees.
- Soy Wax will clean up with soap and water and is biodegradable. If you've ever had a paraffin candle melt all over something, you know how tough it can be to clean up. In most cases you have to scrape it up, possibly damaging the surface, or heat it up and remelt it to get it cleaned up. Being all natural, Soy Wax is a lot easier on the environment, too.
- Soy Wax is a lot more cost effective. It burns longer and is produced from a renewable resource. You get twice the candle (or more) with Soy.
Pillars, Molded Candles, Tarts and Votives
Soy Wax is great! But it does have one inherent problem. It is much, much softer than paraffin wax. While 100% Soy Wax works really well in a container, it is very hard to work with when making other types of candle. We take a great deal of care when shipping these candles, but you still may notice small dings and dents in the candle. Our decision to use Soy Wax makes this small problem unavoidable.
